Doctor With the Patient Examining the Report

Living with chronic pain is one of the most difficult tasks imaginable. You’re in pain day after day, and it never seems to get any better. You’ve tried multiple solutions, and some work for a time, but nothing seems to stick.

Here at Texas Mind Science’s offices in Flower Mound and Richardson, Texas, we take an integrative approach to helping patients deal with chronic pain. Our first line of treatment includes methods that don’t involve medication. If these methods and/or medication don’t ease your pain, we may try an innovative treatment called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

Here’s more about our approach to managing your chronic pain.

The Effects of Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than six months or that continues even after the original injury heals. This kind of pain can greatly limit what you’re able to do in life, both physically and psychologically. If you are very limited, you may also tend to become more irritable, angry, anxious, and depressed.

If your pain isn’t treated well, your life may continue to spiral downward, so our goal is to help you become one of the many people who continue to live happy, productive lives in spite of their chronic pain.

The First Line of Defense

Our first option to deal with chronic pain involves non-pharmaceutical methods. We don’t want to use the strong medication if we don’t have to, so we recommend regular exercise as much as possible for the affected part of your body. We can also try options such as low-level lasers, yoga, physical therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and more.

These methods give your body a chance to heal and reduce your pain with as little interference as possible. If your pain continues at this level, though, you may need medication to experience relief. You may also need to try several medications before you find one that’s effective. You should always stick closely to your doctor’s recommended dosage for any medicine.

TMS

If you continue to struggle with chronic pain, you may be a candidate for TMS therapy. This type of therapy produces safe magnetic pulses from a CloudTMS machine. These pulses then pass through your skull into your brain and stimulate neurons there. The idea is that the magnetic pulses reprogram the neuron circuits that are associated with the perception of pain in your body, which causes you to feel less pain.

You may hear clicking and feel a slight tapping sensation during treatment, but otherwise, there are no side effects and no downtime after the session. We generally recommend five treatments a week for four to six weeks to get the best results.

If you are tired of living with chronic pain, give us a call at Texas Mind Science, or use our convenient online scheduler to set up an appointment.
